It is both an honor and a privilege to be the Superintendent of South Eastern School District. I look forward to serving our students, and all stakeholders in supporting our mission - providing progressive education to strengthen the global community. I grew up in Harrisburg, PA. After graduating from high school, I attended Bloomsburg University where I obtained a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education and a teaching certificate in Earth and Space Science. In 1987, I started my professional career as a science teacher in the South Middleton School District. I have also taught science in the Lower Dauphin School District. In 1991, I completed a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Shippensburg University, followed by a secondary principal’s certificate and a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility. Administratively, I have served as an assistant principal, building principal, and assistant superintendent. I am very fortunate to have been appointed Superintendent of the South Eastern School District as of July 1, 2017. I have been married to my lovely wife Maria for 29 years. Maria has worked for Penn State University for the past 30 years within the Milton Hershey Medical Center. We have four children. The oldest is 27 and a graduate from Penn State. The youngest is 18 and recently graduated from high school. I encourage all parents and community members to attend the many opportunities our schools provide to become actively engaged in the wonderful programs, events and activities that occur daily across all grade levels. As Superintendent, I am committed to establishing strong collaborative relationships. Thank you for partnering with us as we work together to create our next generation of leaders, thinkers, and outstanding community members.

Mr. Jeffrey D. Hughes, Superintendent
