MASKING

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Commonwealth Court’s November 2021 decision invalidating the August 31, 2021 PA Department of Health Masking Order for K-12 public schools.

This decision immediately voided the Department of Health (DOH) issued mask mandate, which required masking in school buildings since September 7, 2021. Decisions regarding masking in schools were returned to local school boards.

Our current Health and Safety Plan states that face coverings will be optional unless the wearing of face coverings is specifically required by law or Order of local, state, or Federal authorities.

Therefore, since the DOH Order has been invalidated, effective December 10, 2021, face coverings will be optional for students, staff, and visitors in all South Eastern School District buildings as per our Health and Safety Plan.

This masking guidance is still effective for the 2022-23 school year.
