Inclement Weather Information for Families 2024-25
In the case of a severe weather event, Dr. Van Deusen will consult with the Director of Transportation and the Director of Buildings and Grounds. The Director of Transportation will contact our district transportation contractors and municipalities to gain a comprehensive picture of the roadways that cover the district. The South Eastern School District covers roughly 108 square miles and varies greatly in road and weather conditions, so a complete picture of the district is necessary.
Dr. Van Deusen will work to make an inclement weather call by 5:15 a.m. to allow families, transportation, and staff time to prepare for the morning. While this timeframe may not always be possible due to the timing or complexity of the issue, it will be our goal.
If school must be cancelled due to inclement weather, the South Eastern School District will utilize an asynchronous learning day.
Student Expectations for Asynchronous Learning
During an asynchronous learning day, students should plan for the following:
- Asynchronous learning will occur using Google Classroom or Canvas (for grades 7-12 after January 16, 2025).
- Teachers will be available to assist and promptly respond to learners via email between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- Classwork should be posted for students as follows:
- Elementary by 8:20 a.m.
- Middle School by 7:20 a.m.
- High School by 7:30 a.m.
Attendance
- Students will be marked present for the purposes of daily attendance in our student information system, Sapphire.
- If the student is ill, a parent or guardian should call or email the building attendance secretary and follow typical district procedures for absences.
- If students are not completing assigned work as expected, teachers should reach out to be sure to provide necessary support to the student and family. Teachers may also consult with building counselors and building administrators for assistance.
