Compulsory Attendance Law
Effective with the 2020-21 school year, a child must comply with compulsory attendance from ages six to 18, or until graduation. Homeschooling must be documented and evaluated to account for all schooling during that time. Students become of compulsory school age, regardless of age, in these circumstances when:
-
The student is enrolled in a public school in kindergarten or above,
-
The student is enrolled in a private school or private tutoring program in first grade or above, or
-
The parent has submitted an affidavit for a home education program for first grade or above. Students may begin a new home education program or continue in a home education as long as they are of school age (graduation or the end of the school term in which the student reaches the age of 21, whichever comes first; 22 Pa. Code § 11.12)
